Download size over 1.8 TB

Hello there.
I used the git clone command to download the whole repo into a new 2 TB SSD; however, it kept downloading past the 1.1 TB mark and even after filling up the whole 2 TB SSD, there are still files missing.
Is the disk space usage higher than 2 TB?
Apologies for a rookie question.
