About the project
MCRME is a collaborative Centers Grant uniting the Melton Center for Jewish Studies, the Middle East Studies Center, and the Center for Ethics and Human Values at The Ohio State University.
The project addresses central modern and historical questions about power regarding minoritized communities in the Middle East through collaborative research, dialogue, and artistic productions. By "minoritized," we refer to legal and political processes through which socio-economic and political factors historically facilitated or undermined conditions of coexistence among populations, empowering some groups while marginalizing others. We focus on multiethnic, multi-locational, and multireligious histories of Jewish and Arab communities, attending to encounters affected by migration, mobility, and immobility, including Jewish and Palestinian voices in the Arabic sphere.
